Introduction

EKN Centre for Education, Research and Development ,a Society Registered Under Charitable Societies Act in August 2003 in memory of Prof.E.K.Narayanan, teacher of Physics, Christ college , Irinjalakuda who died along with his wife in a road accident on 24th August 2002.The unexpected and ultimate departure of EKN was real loss to the country. He had many friends in India and abroad. The formation of EKN centre was a concerted effort of his friends from different walks of life to cherish his memories by doing something valuable to the society.

A Few words on EKN

E.K Narayanan was born and brought up in Ambalamughal, Ernakulam district. He belonged to an ordinary farmer’s family. In his early childhood his family shifted to Kodakara in Thrissur District. EKN completed his high school education in Govt. High school, Kodakara, passed M.Sc Physics from St. Thomas College, Thrissur with 2nd rank in Calicut University in 1978 and then joined Christ College, Irinjalakuda. He was an excellent teacher, loved teaching and student community.

EKN joined Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishath , pioneer people’s science movement in India in 1980 and took up leadership responsibilities in the organization and became the General Secretary in due course. He was a committed social activist. He campaigned for a new world order based on social justice, equality and democratic principles. He was the champion for the caurse of the people at the lowest strata of the society.

EKN played a key role in the complete literacy movement in Kerala in early 90‘s and then he was selected to share his experience in the literacy movement in the rest of the country as an University Grants Commission is Ambassador. He was deputed to for live years as Treasurer of BGVS, an organ of the National literacy Mission and EKN took up the challenge to organize literacy movement in almost every other states in India. He was also one of the leaders of All India People’s Science Network. EKN was a good organizer, thinker and an order.
